The Methanol was a theoretical potential alternative fuel up to 5 years ago.
Since 2013, the year that Prof. George A. Olah and Prof. G.K. Surya Prakash have received a first-ever $1 million award from the Prime Minister of Israel for their innovative research on alternative fuels and development of Methanol economy, a proposal to use Methanol to replace fossil fuels and petroleum based feed-stocks, the Methanol as a liquid fuel alternative has become a common and standard fuel and is currently applied in various countries including Israel, Italy, China and India.
The prime Minister's award is part of the Israeli National Program for Alternative Fuels in the Prime Minister's Office.
